Dumb Begets Dumber

June 20, 2009. In Britney and Paris Einstein, I did a piece on Carrie Prejean, who was deposed of her crown as Miss California in the Miss America "Pageant." Bimbo #1.

June 23, 2009. Right on the heels of Bimbo #1 I did Bimbo #2, Black Hole, Part 2, I posted the now-famous video of Miss Teen USA from South Carolina (thanks to Meg, who is not a bimbo).

April 25, 2010. Thanks to Robert the Skeptic, who used this video on his blog last week (the balloon-commented version that I hate), I present Bimbo #3 for your amazement:

Some commenters on YouTube suggested that she's "acting," but I don't think so: that would make her the greatest actor who ever lived. We all know who the greatest actor is, don't we? I mean, who can argue with Bugs Bunny?

Whether or not she's acting is beside the point anyway. The point is, she's projecting stupid as funny.

And I wonder, quite seriously, where do young girls find role models these days?

Charlie, thanks for posting the version without the comment balloons... they are superfluous, adding nothing to the clearly illiterate blather.

No, I don't think this dolt was acting. There seems to be no lack of idiots out there who are all to willing to display their stupidity for the world to witness.

I like the title of this clip. Given the limit of some of our citizens I wonder if the world with take our country some day.
How she could wonder if France was a country is unbelievable. I doubt she knows the difference between state and federal governments.
It's a shame that we (Americans) don't know geography very well. It's also disappointing that people would produce a show like that to show the world how dumb we can be.

Nobody can act that!

Meryl Streep couldn't even act stupid like that, come on!

These sorts of clips makes me giggle in disbelief at the same time that they make my heart ache for the state of humanity. They only thing that gave me any hope was the look of disbelief on the faces of those kids.

And yes, Bugs Bunny is the finest actor who ever lived.

The dumbing down of America continues. Oh Charlie...

Your last sentence says so much. It is a sad state of affairs. When my daughters were quite young I saw they looked up to Madonna. Then my granddaughter looked up to Britney. Bad to worse each generation.

Was that George W in drag?

Charlie, luckily young girls in upstate SC have me to look up to.

Having had some personal experience with the Extremely Dumb, I fear there was no acting involved, except on the part of the adorable boy child, who pretended he hadn't written down the correct answer. During a lunchtime conversation at work a few years back several of my co-workers and I were discussing making soup. I mentioned that one of my specialties was beef barley soup, with mushrooms. A woman I had previously considered of normal intelligence asked me what part of the cow the barley came from. BUT WAIT...there's more. One of my husband's co-workers once declared that the U.S. deserved the bombing of Pearl Harbor because of what we did to Hiroshima.

In Canada, we know geography.... world geography... quite well. Having spent five years living in the USA, I can attest to the fact that many people in that country don't know where cities in the rest of their own country are, let alone anywhere else in the world.

It truly is a sad state of affairs.

Here's what I don't understand, if you are cute or pretty and a woman, why would you think that acting dumb would add to your allure. Good looking men don't go out of their way to act stupid, if they are not.

I suspect that this is genuine. Tragically genuine.

I hated geography in school!
But having worked as a courier for many (MANY) years I got to love maps and roads and rivers and mountains!
There are 32 counties in this country, and I've been through all of them. Sometimes all in one week!

So. America is a country? :¬)

I feel more stupider from having watched this. I am NOT good at geography, but I do pride myself in knowing the different between a country and a consanent : )

I wanted to believe that this was acting, but I can't. I've met educated people (Americans and Britons) who confused China with Japan, Afghanistan with India, Greece with Turkey. They'd all squawk like mad if someone got their nationality wrong, but they act affronted when (gently -- kindly!) reminded that Turks aren't Greeks and Japanese aren't Chinese.

There are also smart kids (boys AND girls!) who don't give a hang about anything other than their favorite subject. My youngest daughter has a brainy friend who scores 98% on his physics exams. He was shocked to hear that Japan and Germany were our enemies during WWII.

I didn't get to comments on this one, but all 19 are excellent—and very sad.
