A Baby Announcement

I bet a couple of you nearly went poo in your pants when you read the headline. Well you can relax—-I'm not pregnant.

And no, we didn't adopt another critter. But my sister Cathy (of the New York Cathys), also known as Pootsie (of the New York Pootsies), did.

According to Pootsie's communique,
Pansy was born on January 4, 2011, on the Jersey Shore. She is a purebred Mi-Ki and will be 5 to 8 lbs. at adulthood. The breed is known to be calm, sweet, intelligent, low energy and sociable. They are non-shedders and love to travel. Pansy is the first dog in this branch of the Callahan family. Wish me luck!
26 million dog breeds and Cathy chooses one that I've never heard of: Mi-Ki.

I'm also dumbfounded: Ever since we were kids my sister has been a cat person. Didn't know a dog from a barn door. Either she's lost her mind or had one of those "awwww-isn't-she-precious" attacks all of us animal lovers are prone to.

Since I do know a little bit about canines, here are a couple tips:

1. Do not go about the house in your bare feet.

2. Be careful not to lose track of her when you're shoveling coal in the basement at midnight.

Everybody welcome Pansy with a "awwww-isn't-she-precious" comment.

hey Charlie...I can breath easier knowing you are not pregnant. As the furball's uncle, you really should share in the clean-up:) LOL Hope you have a nice Spring.

Yikes! I'd be concerned about stepping on the wee thing! I googled the breed and they get a moppy looking coat with wingy ears. Good that they are laid back and not much for barking. Hope this one stays true to that!!! It's cute... but I'm more of a giant dog kinda girl.

Glad you're out and about, Charlie!

Awww, she really IS cute!! Adorable, and all that. I've had a couple of those moments with animals myself. Glad to see you here today, Charlie! It's always a good day for me when that happens...

Well, I researched Mi-Ki puppies and I don't even want a dog. Pansy is a cutie, that's for sure. I had a Papillon for a few years and having a tiny dog (mine was almost 5 pounds) means trying not to step on it. In my research it says the Mi-Ki can be litter trained which would be a good thing. Such a small dog gets exercise in the yard chasing the ball and toys but with little legs is not a lot of fun walking. I had a doggie backpack and took my dog everywhere. Does your sister have a blog? I think she did the right to get one dog, some people think their puppy wants a friend so they get two dogs and then most of them regret it. Hopefully your sister will be sending you photos regularly so we can see the growing up of little Pansy too.

Easy to see why your sister succumbed. And well done to defy tradition and give her a blue blanket rather than a sickly pink. Are you now Uncle Charlie?

I was beginning to wonder what medical miracle treatments you were trying out. :)

Your new family is cute...but so small I'd be afraid of losing her! Then again, my "child" is a 110 lb Chocolate Lab who thinks I only drive the car for him. :)

I gotta tell ya, Charlie---as undeniably cute as that critter is....no one can convince me it's a dog. Pansy is a milk cow moniker, but I don't think she' s one of those, either. I do hope everyone will be very happy with the new living arrangements, though. Love is love, and the four-footed kind is pretty awesome, whatever you call it.

This post is from Pansy's mother (her adopted mother, not biological). Pansy's adoption was well thought out and researched. Definitely not a impulse purchase! I'm a senior citizen who hasn't done an impulsive thing in over 30 years. She's the perfect dog for condo or apartment living. I own a townhouse without a fenced yard and her low energy level is perfect for confined spaces. We're off to PetSmart to look for a bejeweled collar and leash so Pansy can be the talk of the neighborhood. . .

sooooo precious! I'm a cat person too, but I would have a tough time passing on this sweetie. Have you googled Mi-Ki? Gotta try ASAP! Good weekend to you and your sister!

Aw, she IS cute, but "Pansy"? Sheesh, now all the other Mi-Kis are gonna tease her no end, bless her heart. Great Big Welcome Pansy!

Thanks for the tips Charlie, and good ones they are!

You know, after five years of hour long walks, and endless games of football with an extremely bossy Border Collie, I'm beginning to see the point of small dogs... Mega cute!

Never heard of Mi-Ki either, but she is a cutie! Welcome to the newest member of the C family!

Deep inside each one of us cat people is a dog-lover waiting for the right one to jump sides for. But don't tell anyone.

"low energy" - that's one of my traits. Certainly not a guard dog. Looks like a toy and could fit in a large handbag.

I'm with your Charlie - I've never heard of a Mi-Ki. And, yes, Pansy is "awwww precious". :)
