Politics: My First and Last Say

On Tuesday, November 6, 2012 the citizens of the United States will elect a president. Yes, it's almost exactly one year from now, but the mudslinging, lies, and false promises are well under way. I've noted a couple blogger friends testing the political waters—Murr and Jerry—that are normally anathema to a blog. Both Murr and Jerry have excellent perspectives of what needs to be done in this country, and I agree with them, but I have a much different view. It's called reality.

In my very first and very last political opinion, I found this piece of video on Robert's blog and I agree with it 100%.

Caution: This is George Carlin, a brilliant man with a potty mouth. In many of his comedy skits I've found the profanity overdone and unnecessary, but here it fits perfectly. I urge you to listen to the man because this is the REALITY of the U.S.

George Carlin. My son and I read "Brain Droppings" to each other and fell all over ourselves laughing.

As for the upcoming election, I'm going to predict incredulity with intermittent terror.

I wish I could come at your ripping and wailing about what a cynic and pessimist you and George are. However, I fear you are both right.
email me, Charlie.

I have this burned on a CD so I can play it for the people in the car who can't jump out. He would have made a great occupy Wall Street member.

George was not optimistic about democracy, particularly American democracy. He also held little hope for the survival of the species. I vote a Libertarian ticket, not in hope of change. I do it to thumb my nose at those in power. There is a certain liberty in being pathetic.

Brilliant Charlie!

George Carlin was in a position to tell it like it really was, had been for a long time, and still is. We all watched as the corporations became "persons" and we all sat back throughout our lives allowing this to happen. What a dirty trick if the Americans find some day that big money people in other countries own America.

Now THERE'S a rant!

Was your son pottymouth training at the time?

Carlin as the hippy-dippy weatherman: "Tonight's forecast is dark, with light by morning."

As far as your election outlook, it sounds like some sort of weird weather report.

Don't you DAST come ripping and wailing at me, Missy—I'm afraid you would tear me to shreds. And for the record, when it comes to government, I'm a cynic.

Yes, I need to email you.

A captive audience works every time. Just ask all the men still in Guantanamo.

Now I never thought of them but you are right.

Thank you, Michael, for visiting. I don't think you're pathetic at all—you vote how you feel, and that's what counts.

People say, "If you didn't vote, then don't complain about . . ." Bullshit. Voting for the best of the worst disregards my morals and my conscience, and I'm allowed to complain all I want (except to my wife).

I am, aren't I.

You're much too verbose these days, Kim (I should talk).

I think Carlin's analysis applies to more than the US—how about the UK, Canada, and Ireland?

Charlie Callahan said...

Try Saudi Arabia and China as part owners of our dear land, dear lady.

Charlie Callahan said...

Carlin's was good, too.

As an alien I keep out of US politics. He makes America sound like Russia used to be.

Haven't had a chance to listen but knowing Carlin, I'd probably agree. :)

Funny, he's the only comedian that my straight laced Dad ever liked. The fact that the Hippie Dippie Weatherman was his favorite always astonished little girl me. :)

Well, Charlie, I don't know that that IS a different view---I'm with you and George all the way, so much so that I watched this all over again, for probably the third time this year. No one could say it better.

An alien? May I ask, if it's not too personal, what galaxy you're from?

I too keep out of UK and Canadian politics, although I read a lot about them. I stick to our own mess here in the US of A.

What Carlin has to say is nothing new—he died in 2008—but has been building for a lot of years.

The HDW may have astonished you, but he was right, wasn't he?

Charlie Callahan said...

Not so different, Murr, except in the telling—being a lady, I don't THINK you talk about red, white, and blue dangles.

I clean it up a little in print, is all.

Professor, I've shared this one. Thanks! :)
